Baking Class -- Upon your request

I am finally able to resume the baking classes -- February 2011.

But this time, there are 2 major changes :-

1---  classes can only be conducted over the weekends.

2---  the classes are strictly going to be upon request - that means YOU tell me what you want to learn and if I think Im able to give you a good lesson on what you request and we can gather the minimum number of 4; the class is ON.... That means if you want to learn all about Puff Pastry, then we have a class on Puff Pastry ............. how's that?????

A general guideline on the fees (actual fee will depend on number of items and ingredients costs):-

Hands -- On  Class  :-  One Day :- RM 250 per person.
Two Days :- RM 400 per person.

The average number of items taught will be between 4 to 8 items (for 2 days)

Demo classes --  upon request...

Hope this will help encourage/motivate those who have been wanting to join but wants to have their own choices.  BUT a word of kind advice; for those with those with little / no experience in baking; it woud be of great help to YOU and ME if  we start with the Beginners' class first... then you can make your request....just a piece of advice.....

My Second Class

Second Class…..

Second class had a student coming all the back from Kluang – Anita. She was willing to travel so far just to learn… within a week, she was already making a small business out of selling the fruit tarts I taught her…. The feeling of achievement was great…. Teaching does has its rewards…

In this class, I had to conduct in both BM and Mandarin… there was one lady who didn’t understand BM… surprise…. surprise…

Anyway, ask the students to come up and try for themselves to mould the tart… after a few calls, only one came up…. Then slowly slowly about 5 to 6 of them came up to my table… the rest later came up but tengok tengok saja.

My assistant… my son, Afiq, tested the coconut tarts for doneness. He inserted the tester, turned around and said ok. Then he closed the oven door and left the tarts to continue baking …. Until someone reminded me about them… luckily they were just turning a nice brown and not burnt…. That’s Afiq lah….

Next Class…..

27th Feb 2010…. Puff Pastry --- demo on how to make puff pastry from scratch…
28th Feb 2010…..Durian --- Durian Fudge (guarantee best sekali) dan Durian Mousse.

See you there…..

Note : For now, I am teaching at HOI selayang… will teach at another place soon.. cannot announce yet..

My First Class

The First Jitters ---- of an Instructor

I finally picked up the courage to start conducting my very first class. Actually, the fear is not from the teaching itself (afterall, I am a trained teacher with 10 years of experience) but more so the fear of having to conduct it in BM. Sad to say, my command of mandarin is better than that of the BM; I went to a convent school while studying in Singapore, took Mandarin as a second language and on top of that, I was often the only Malay girl in the class. Anyway, with lots of encouragement from my husband, sons and lots of newfound friends here and a challenge from an old time friend, Kak Norsini , I finally conducted my very first class. It was a demo class in Handmade Chocolates.

That morning, EVERYBODY got scolded for anything they did esp. my poor hubby….. the poor guy apologized and merely nodded and smiled until he finally dropped me off at the venue of the class. It was only after class that when he congratulated me on a job well done did he finally teased me about my seemingly unseen panic…. “Gara-gara, nak kena mengajar dalam BM, habis semua kena marah... OK pun… kelas… semua faham kan….”

Anyway, I was surprised when 15 people turned up but it made me happy. Everybody enjoyed the class and it went well. Had to get used to people calling me ‘Chef’ … gave up telling them I had never worked in a hotel before… so chef, chef lah….. yang penting apa yang diajar… ikhlas dan murid-murid faham dan dapat buat yang betul. Takut.. oi.. mengajar tak jujur… belakang hari jawab sendiri ohhhhh…
